Born in Gaziantep in 1940, Muharrem BALAT graduated from İTÜ Faculty of Civil Engineering in 1963. He specialized in “Reinforced Concrete Buildings”. BALAT married his wife Miss Zerrin in 1969 and has 3 children.
Muharrem BALAT, who has a Class A Infinite Contractor Certificate, first worked in the Static Science Committee of the Ministry of Public Works. Towards the end of 1965, he constructed the Giresun-Harşid Hydroelectric Power Plant, the Gaziantep Kamil Ocak Stadium and the Gaziantep Indoor Sports Hall as a construction site manager. In 1968, he founded the Muharrem Balat Construction Company.
In 1974, the construction of the ODTÜ Mechanical Engineering Faculty Laboratory was completed.
With the establishment of Bimhol A.Ş. in 1976, which carries out contracting work abroad, the construction of the Mecca Environmental Tunnels, Medina Hajj Accommodation Site, and Mecca Education Site was completed.
Muharrem Balat Construction Company, which has undertaken important projects in the field of contracting, gained even greater momentum with the establishment of Baltaş İnşaat in 1987 and Balpa Tekstil & İnşaat in 1990. Baltaş İnşaat has provided housing to over 120,000 families under its roof. It has completed the construction of many universities, hospitals, mosques, industrial sites, mass housing, organized industrial sites, free zones, hydroelectric power plants, indoor sports halls, stadiums and factories in Turkey and abroad on time and completely.
Gaziantep Merveşehir Housing, Yalova Çınarcık Permanent Earthquake Housing, Elazığ Hilalkent Housing, Gebze Huzurkent Housing, İstanbul Gölşehir Housing, Besni Yenikent Housing, Gaziantep Zirvekent Housing, Gaziantep Şahinbey TOKİ Housing, Kayabaşı Housing, Ispartakule Housing, Konya Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Hospital, Gaziantep American Hospital, ODTÜ Gaziantep Campus Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University Faculty of Agriculture Construction, GATEM Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Market, Gaziantep Shoemakers’ Site, Osmaniye Small Industrial Site, Kahramanmaraş Small Industrial Site, İslahiye Small Industrial Site, Gaziantep Special Administration Building, Nizip Special Administration Building, Millennium Business Center, Metropolitan Municipality Lodging Construction, Metropolitan Municipality Wholesale Market, Ballıhan Enterprises, Şahinbey Industrial Site and Şehitkamil Umut Neighborhood Housing are large and are just some of the important construction projects.
Baltaş İnşaat and Balpa İnşaat, which form the MB Holding Construction Group, continue their work with many projects spread throughout Turkey. The companies in the MB Holding Construction Group have ISO 9001 Management System, ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System certificates.
In 1993, Muharrem BALAT, who broke new ground in the Southeastern Region in order to produce quality concrete and popularize the use of ready-mixed concrete, established the Balbet Insulated Ready-Mixed Concrete Production Facility, the first ready-mixed concrete production facility in Kahramanmaraş.
Muharrem BALAT, who founded İnper Perlit, the first and only perlite production facility in the region in 1997, produced perlite, which is used in heat & sound insulation in the construction sector and as a productivity enhancer in the agricultural sector.
Muharrem BALAT, who has investments in the energy sector as well as the construction and textile sectors, established Menderes Geothermal Elektrik Üretim A.Ş. (MEGE) in 1999 in order to generate electricity from environmentally friendly and renewable resources using geothermal fluid and to contribute to the country’s economy. He established Turkey’s first private sector geothermal power plant, DORA-1. BALAT, which virtually led the energy sector by opening Turkey’s first private geothermal power plant, took part in activities that would prove the importance of geothermal energy for the economy and the future, and became one of the founders and first presidents of the Geothermal Energy Association, and also established DORA-2, DORA-3A, DORA-3B and DORA-4 geothermal power plants, respectively, following the DORA-1 geothermal power plant.
Muharrem BALAT continued his innovative and first-of-its-kind investment policy with 3Teks Medical Textile, which he launched in 2004. With this investment, exports were made to 72 countries in Europe, America, Africa and the Middle East, quadrupling the export figures and proving the success of the investment in the sector.
BALAT, which aims to make integrated agricultural investments within the geothermal field, aims to increase the added value of the resource by using geothermal resources in greenhouse heating after electricity generation, to benefit from our resources more effectively, to make health tourism investments in the region. With the support of the Dutch Ministry of Innovation, it established Sultan Sera in 2008, which is a “first” in Turkey, and made the swampy, unsuitable lands for agriculture usable and brought them into the economy, and started production in 2012.
Muharrem BALAT, who also has ambitious projects in the growing tourism sector, made a good start in the tourism sector with the Hilton Group, which is the owner of the first hotels that come to mind when it comes to hotels, thanks to his innovative approach in the sector, and founded the BLT Turizm company in 2013 and brought the Hampton by Hilton Gaziantep Hotel to Gaziantep.
After these important steps in the country, Muharrem BALAT established the first geothermal power plant in Croatia, the newest member of the European Union, under the name MB Geothermal. In the country that aims to meet 35% of its electricity from renewable sources, as a Turkish investor who started to produce electricity from geothermal in 2019, he represented our country with honor and received messages of gratitude from the Croatian bureaucracy.
Our Honorary President Muharrem BALAT; He achieved many successes with his contemporary, solid and safe projects in Turkey and abroad and passed away on June 27, 2023. As the MB Holding Family, we will continue to work on the path he paved and with the principle of “Success is the Greatest Happiness” that he adopted.
