The supply contract for the DORA-3 Geothermal Power Plant, affiliated with Menderes Geothermal Electricity Generation Inc., a group company of MB Holding, whose foundation was laid with the participation of Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yıldız and Minister of Family and Social Policies Fatma Şahin, was signed yesterday. Aydın Governor Kerem Al, MB Holding Board Chairman Muharrem Balat and Ormat Systems Ltd. Board Chairman Lucien Bronichi attended the signing ceremony held at MB Holding’s Aydın office.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, MB Holding A.Ş. Board Chairman Muharrem Balat said; “It is a social responsibility for us to be able to run businesses in geothermal fields in a healthy way and to ensure resource sustainability and renewability. As it is known, underground resources belong to the public. Geothermal resources are a resource type suitable for integrated use. Geothermal power plants are facilities that reduce carbon dioxide CO2 emissions. At the same time, geothermal resources have an infinite life if operated under suitable conditions. Geothermal fluid is produced underground and injected back underground. For this reason, they definitely do not cause environmental pollution. Geothermal energy is a clean energy source because it is not consumed like fossil fuels. Energy that is not dependent on foreign sources is national. A national energy source is cheap. Geothermal resources should be constantly monitored, operated correctly and the infinite life of the resource should be ensured.” and signed the contract.
Balat: “We Want to Leave a Beautiful Mark on Turkey”
Muharrem Balat, who answered the questions asked after the signing, stated that; In the DORA-3 project, the country’s economy will gain a new dynamism by developing the existing geothermal field potential and that in addition to reducing air pollution, the foreign exchange inputs spent for oil will also decrease; “DORA-3 Geothermal Power Plant Project consists of 2 units with 17 MWe power and has a total installed power of 34 MWe. According to the project’s deadline, it is planned for the 1st unit to start trial production in April 2013 and start commercial production. The 2nd unit will start commercial production in October 2013. With the commissioning of DORA-3, which will produce 220,000,000 kWh (kilowatt-hour) of net electricity per year with its 34 MWe (megawatt) capacity, MEGE A.Ş.’s total installed power capacity will increase to 55 MWe and its annual total electrical energy production amount will increase to 350,000,000 kWh.”
Balat concluded his words as follows; “As MB Holding, we want to leave a beautiful mark on Turkey by evaluating geothermal energy resources, which are environmentally friendly, clean, renewable and green energy sources, in our geothermal power plant investments.”
